Dee has a true gift. She combines an amazing eye and great taste, with a canny ability to get under the skin of her clients to truly understand who they are and what they are looking for. It being our first property, we were quite overwhelmed with choices and not a little afraid of the budget and time overruns that we were told are likely. Luckily for us a friend recommended Dee. From the moment we first spoke to Dee, we felt that we were in the best hands. She not only understood our “poorly articulated vision” very well but was able to provide us with the confidence that the project will be completed in time and budget. Having minutely grasped our tastes, Dee then proceeded to develop themes for the project overall that allowed us to visually grasp how the end product will look like. Moreover, she had multiple clever design suggestions that helped best maximise storage as well as aesthetics in a small London apartment. We rarely had to deal with or even speak to the individual contractors she brought in, but everyone in the team was very professional, responsive and flexible. She also went out of her way to help, for example on the design of some bespoke furniture that we got outside of our arrangement and dealt with some very troublesome managing agents to get us planning approvals. There was not a single incident where we came away dissatisfied. Even when we disagreed with a particular choice, she was very flexible and enthusiastic about taking our views on board. The end product, which was completed exactly on time and on budget, looked beautiful and appears much larger than it is. We can’t recommend Dee highly enough and often enough. A lot of our friends who have visited us since can testify to our incessant chatter about our amazing designer.

..."I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Velvet Orange to anyone I know"... Having lived in our house for 10 years, we knew it was time for a fundamental re-vamp but had little idea where to start. A friend recommended we talk to Dee on the basis that she offers original and differentiated design ideas, a terrific level of service, highly qualified and reliable contractors, and reasonable costs. We have not been disappointed. From the first walk-through the house, Dee immediately understood the sort of look and feel we wanted. She then proceeded to put her own stamp on the project, coming up with mood boards of ideas that we would never have thought of but loved, from paint colours and lighting to small details like painting the dining table legs a different colour. She proposed mixing texture, colour and lighting to create the ambience we wanted. Throughout the execution of the project Dee was always available and proactive in addressing any issues that did arise. As work progressed and we changed our mind about a few things, she and her contractors were very flexible in updating the schedule of works. She also continued to develop ideas as the project took shape. We are delighted with the final outcome and by the fact that it came in exactly on budget. Our home now benefits from a beautiful design that flows through the house in a joined-up way, and the immaculate finishes that we have always envied in other houses. I absolutely love how velvet orange has transformed my home"...Having a growing list of minor building and cosmetic issues last February I realised what stopped me addressing them was a lack of time to coordinate and only Google to serve as a little black book of tradespeople. It felt daunting and I feared getting ripped off. I didn't want a reenactment of that film The Money Pit!

I called on Dee and asked for help. She came promptly to quote with an assessing eye and a notepad ready to record answers to her many important questions that already convinced me I was going to save money and get a better result than attempting to go it alone and I was not disappointed. I thought I knew what I wanted, the mood board and her own ideas based very individually on my personal style and lifestyle gave me several eureka moments. Dee knew what I wanted but couldn't, without design skills, articulate.

Her quote was detailed and clear. The budget discussed was respected and kept to rigidly by Dee, I was less disciplined but certainly not encouraged by Dee to overspend. She held my hand through the entire process and kept tradespeople at an arms length from me when it suited and brought me or them more into the process when it benefitted. I found her extremely sensitive to my happiness and satisfaction throughout and any issues were dealt with immediately and without awkwardness. For example poor wall papering was remedied with a new decorator on site the next day at no extra cost. All snagging was managed promptly and without argument and invoicing was clear to the end.

I absolutely love how velvet orange has transformed my home. I would not hesitate recommending them to anyone I know. I plan to enlist their services again to project manage a basement dig next year. In fact I wouldn't even be brave enough to embark on a project like that without Dee. I also know from experience that using a designer and project manager like Dee saves money - it's an economic decision rather than a luxury.

Working on redesigning our home, Dee managed to create all at the same time a modern, colourful and very cosy atmosphere that was really close to our personalities. I have worked with Dee on a number of projects where she has designed a few different interiors, both for my personal residential space and for my developments.
